When the Community Foundation of Harford County (CFHC) receives stock gifts, the shares must first be transferred into CFHC's brokerage account. CFHC then liquidates the shares as soon as allowable and the proceeds are invested according to our investment policy. Your financial institution will not transfer stock without your written authorization. CFHC has a brokerage account at Wells Fargo Advisors.
Please notify your broker and CFHC that you would like to gift X amount of shares of XYZ Company stock to the Community Foundation of Harford County. Use the sample letter to do this. Please send or fax a copy of the letter to CFHC at the same time you send the letter to your broker.

Real Estate
The Community Foundation accepts gifts of real estate that include developed property, undeveloped property, or gifts subject to a prior life interest in accordance with our gift acceptance policy.
Tangible Personal Property
Tangible gifts, whether art, jewelry, or other personal property, will be considered in light of CFHC guidelines. Although CFHC values all prospective gifts, there may be circumstances under which we are unable to accept a gift. The final decision is made by our Board of Directors.
Life Insurance
The Community Foundation accepts gifts of life insurance in accordance with our gift acceptance policy. CFHC must be named as both beneficiary and irrevocable owner of an insurance policy before it can be recorded as a completed gift.
Bequests
Bequests are a wonderful way to benefit Harford County and to create a legacy. We record bequests from donors under their wills and trusts as gifts to the community foundation when they are irrevocable per our gift acceptance policy.
